It can't even run cutscenes smoothly anymore. This latest patch has also increased the incidence of texture/object popping, resulted in me having to wait for data to load at doors (which never happened previously,) and basically just makes the game hitch and stutter constantly even when nothing's going on, even with the framerate limited to avoid CPU bottlenecks.
When the game launched, CPU performance wasn't particularly good and to make matters worse it stutters heavily any time you hit a CPU bottleneck (which you probably will.) That performance has dropped over time, culminating with a massive ~30% drop after the latest patch - one that was a result of months of intense optimization in preparation for the last-gen console release. So why am I giving this game a thumbs down? Because it runs like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, and every patch makes it worse. Writing is definitely a weak point however, with mediocre quests that fall completely flat any time they attempt to do anything which should have significant emotional impact. Gameplay is surprisingly solid, with engaging, impactful combat and fluid exploration. The design and detail of the school is simply stunning and really feels like a love letter to fans. Hogwarts Legacy is a bog-standard open world game in a beautifully-realized world with plenty of content. It provides a fresh air in the world of RPGs. Apart from the gaming concerns, the game uses up all of my 16 GB RAM at medium settings and sometimes kept freezing and crashing due to that for quite a few times.Īfter all said and done, this is a good game, but not in the league of RDR2 or KCD. Also all treasure vaults has the same architecture and no variation is provided. The entire map has been filled with too many tasks (just like newer AC open world games) and it becomes cumbersome after a while. And so is the concept of using their hairs and whatnot to upgrade clothing.īut this game is not without its flaws. The introduction of capturing and breeding beasts is a nice touch. Even after so many hours I get confused among the corridors and without the map, its impossible to attend one class after the next due to the sheer complexity of the castle. Also the sheer architecture of the Hogwarts Castle is marvellously done. It satisfies the itch of travelling through the world on a broom or a hippogriff, using various spells to fight against enemies. I always wanted to play a Hogwarts based open world game.
